I'm In For It Now...

Remember how I mentioned that I might give a triathlon a thought? Well, after researching triathlons, I decided that I need to start smaller and that maybe I should just start out with a 5K or something. Well, I went with the "or something" part of that thought. A friend from book club invited me nonchalantly to join her and some other girls in a mud run coming up in September. It's called the Play Dirty Adventure Trail Run.  Here's a map of the course:

I imagine that it'll be a little something like this:
I am taking a leap into the unknown here.
For example, what should I wear that won't weigh me down?
Which shoes should I choose to ruin, or should I get some boots, or just run barefoot?
Is my upper body strength good enough for all of this climbing?
Am I going to get overexcited and laugh through the whole thing like I usually do when involved in any sort of sport and overexert myself too early in the race?
Will I pee my pants?
Who would notice anyway with all of the mud and muck?
I think I need to take a trip to the nearest army surplus store and get some expert advice.
But that might all get cancelled out if our group decides to wear matching costumes.
Can you tell I'm a little anxious? And by anxious, I mean a big helping of excited with a heaping side of nervousness. Wish me luck. Let the training commence!
Oh, and Robin Mangum, if you read this before I have the chance to talk to you...
You are doing this with me!

This is going to be so much fun for you!!! I wish I could join you, alas, I am crippled......I mean pregnant!
I think you will pee on yourself with laughter and it will be awesome!
You should look into water resistant running clothing. I think that might work well. Oh, I'm so excited for you!

ps Check out the shirt I just made on de blog. You might recognize the fabric.

My first thought was, "How can I get myself there to do it with you?" Looks soooo fun! Have a blast!

I'm planning to go run at about 5:45 AM tomorrow (Tuesday) morning. I'm doing the couch to 5k program.

Dixie, we're so doing this when you return to the states.
Maren, get over here! Too bad I was too lazy to run with you while you were here. We were both pregnant most of that time too though;)
"Mommy", you can do it!! I on the other hand, cannot get myself up that early. I'll be running around 6:30, maybe 7.

but it's only 80 degrees at 5:45 before the sun comes up instead of i'm-going-to-die hot. also, this is Elizabeth since i've got the alias thing going on.

That will be lots of fun. do some pullups every time you think about it through the day. even if you need your feet held get as many as you can in. You will be sucking wind on that one for sure. That course is no joke!

Oh gosh, Travis. I don't think I can do a single pull up. I'll have to go to the nearest playground and try it out. I'm decent with monkey bars and the arm walk thing. Time for some serious playtime!!

How fun! It seems like they have as many mud races over there as 5ks :) I hardly hear of those races here. I might be a tad bit jealous. I have wanted to do one since I have heard of them. Alas, I am in Dixie's boat and SO out of shape right now!!! Good luck! We want pictures :)
