Fanfare!

Today I finished day 4 of my 10K training and I.AM.SORE. I hope I can keep this up. I tried explaining my schedule, but it's much easier to just show it to you. The numbers on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday represent miles. I ran the longest I've ever run in my life today-on Tuesday I cut it a little short. I used my super cool running watch and it beeped at me every time I completed one mile, at the halfway point, then it played a little fanfare when I reached 4.5 miles. I was so exhausted, but I had to dance a little with the music. Then I waddled to the door, and Josh scared me out of my skin as soon as I walked in (thanks a lot). I am very proud of myself, even though my pace was SLOOOOOWWWWW. I learned that if I run faster, it will all be over with faster-I know, I'm a genius. I am forcing my way through this. My mind tries to talk me out of it every day and justify why I can't exercise, but I shut up that pesky mind that never stops whining and I do it. Then my body hates me afterward.  I tell it to just stick it out until Sunday. Oh, that glorious day of rest!! Thank you, Jesus, for giving me that one day to recover from this madness-I am not being blasphemous here, I am really thanking Him. It is one of the 10 commandments, after all. I guess I like the torture, because I keep running more and setting bigger goals. For now I am just so proud of myself for running the farthest ever in my life. I can't look at week 8, where I have to almost double what I did today. Keep yourself in the now, Stacy-that's Josh's voice in my head. Hopefully by then I'll be faster too so it won't take me 1 1/2 hours to run!! Week one is almost complete. I can't believe it! Any runners who read this, please give me some advice. Am I overdoing this? Should I tone it down a little, or is this a good plan?

Stacy, I'm so excited for you to do a 10k! You are going to love it and feel so accomplished!!

Since you asked, I think your mileage might be a bit high (with multiple longer runs during the week)- I think it's more than what you need to do to run a 10k strong. We can talk more in person if you want, but take a look at either of these training schedules and see what you think. Training might be more enjoyable and you'll still be ready for the 10k!! Your training week will basically be: 1 day rest, 2 days cross train or walk, 2 days of 30 min runs, 1 day of a long run.

* 10k program at the bottom of the page. Just work back to find what week you would be on... I think the end of week 6?

I'm definitely not an expert so it's just a thought. You go girl!

I hear ya! I woke up feeling pretty sore today, as well. It felt great to sit in the whirlpool at the gym before I did my cross training today.

I think your mileage is a little high, too. A 10k is only 6.2 miles. Is there a reason you are training up to 8 miles?

Thanks Amy. I will check it out and make some changes, for sure! I would be more than happy to back off, because it's been a tough week and I don't know if I can increase my workout anymore.
Leah, this is just a free training schedule that I googled. I thought it might be good to run 8 miles, so 6 would feel like nothing.

Stacy, I just finished the "couch to 5K" program that I found on google (also an app in the itunes store). It was an 8 week program and it was totally do-able, only 3x/week. Now I want to do their 10K training, which is normally a 13 week program, but since I already did the 5K one, I can start the 10K program in week 5! (also an itunes app that works with your music playlist. it tells you when to run or walk, and you do intervals). Anyway, let me see if I can find the link for you. Ok here it is: http://www.felttip.com/run10k/ If you can already run a 5K, then start this program in week 5!!! It looks a billion times easier than what you are doing AND it's only 3 times a week! WOOT! Plus, like I said, I did the same company's 5K one and it really worked! Ok, good luck! Sorry this was long! LOL. Oh and P.S., I did this after not working out for at least a year, and I'm overweight. You are not. So I know you can do it!

I like that one too, Amiee. Thanks! I have a better idea of what I need to do now. I like the advice they give on the couch to 5K. I've been working too hard and have felt it, but at first I thought it was just because I'm in my first week. I think I'll do something in between the Couch to 10K and the Jeff Galloway schedule. That's awesome that you have started running too, Amiee. Keep it up! It's a very rewarding hobby.

Still doing Insanity?! That's awesome! I miss doing it with you and Lindsay. I still keep it in my exercise routine but can't keep up as much as I used to. ;) I think it's awesome that you're just going after it with a 10k. runnersworld.com has some great suggestions for training for different races.
