Major Adjustments

After last weeks' workouts and advice from you, my friends, I have a totally different training schedule to prepare me for my 10K. Here are new things I've learned.

  • I didn't know that the purpose of cross training is so you get exercise without the impact of running.
  • The Insanity workouts are nothing but impact, so those are out (sorry Mel, I don't have your superhuman strength to run AND do Insanity daily!)
  • No matter what I am training for, I have to give my body some rest time in order to function properly as a wife and mother to three young children.
  • I have to humble myself and realize that I am not a speedy runner and need to set realistic goals for my races. My goal for this race:  no walking. The end. I have no concern over time, just endurance.
So, my new improved simplified schedule is as follows with no more resting on Sunday. I plan on a family walk around the Shire or "shower" as Ian and Afton call it-probably because of their mother's southern drawl-which counts as a great productive Sunday activity:

Are you guys ok? I mean after last nights game I was a bit worried about the Hutch clan down South. I was cheering for LSU knowing that you guys were too. Ah well, better luck next year.

That game was ugly and disappointing. Thank goodness it was Jefferson's last game. We're okay. Josh's thoughts were: "Life goes on, even when LSU loses a game. The sun still rises in the morning." We kept the kids up way too late, so hopefully the boys are functioning okay at school today. Thanks for thinking of us!

So when do you run? Chris is an avid runner running about 6 to 10 miles per night. When he leaves he is gone for about a hour if not more. I don't want to go after him and the idea is that I can go on my own without kids. But I can't go during the day without them and I don't want to run at night. And we don't have a treadmill...thoughts?

And I didn't watch the game...I just kept watching facebook. I'm glad I didn't watch it! Just hearing about it made me so annoyed!

And P.S- Your sister Dixie- one of her BFF"s Katy Nielsen McGee is my BFF's cousin. We are blog friends...small world!

Alacey, do you have a jogging stroller? On Monday nights I run at 8pm with some friends, but the rest of the time I run pushing Afton in the jogger after I drop the boys off in the morning, then I go early on Saturday mornings. Today was a walking day, so the whole family went on a walk around the neighborhood. Josh is sometimes home in the afternoons, so I will sometimes run while he is home with Afton before the boys come home from school. Basically, I've had to make it a priority and force myself to make time to run, because I can come up with a list of things to do instead. Good luck!
That's funny how you know Dixie. Did you see that she had her baby? She had a successful VBAC that only took her 2 hours! SCORE!!
