I searched Family Search.com today and discovered that on my mom's dad's side, the Moons, we have documented records that go back 15 generations starting from me and ending with Henry Moon (Born in 1527 of Hollowforth, Lancashire, England).
It was so funny because I found that he named his son Robert who named his son
Henry who named his son
Robert to
Henry, to
Robert and on and on 10 times until Henry Moon (Born 29 March 1819) finally broke the pattern and named his son John Thomas Moon (Born 13 September 1844). John begat Ray, who begat Charles John Moon, who begat Lorna Moon, who begat ME!!!
So, without knowing, Josh and I named Ian Charles after his family on 3 sides because Ian is the Scottish form of John, which is on the Hutchinson, Moon, and Holloway side. Did I lose you, or do you get it?
I'm really proud that people in my family did all of this research. Now I'm getting pumped up to help my dad do his family's work. Watch out Holloways, here I come! I hope I don't find out that Josh and I are related.........

Our family tree is stuck on my Dad's side. My dad's mom won't talk to him and won't tell us anything about her family or her husband George's side of the family so I've literally hit a wall. It is so frusturating! I always feel guilty when they say in church that you need to do geneology because I know that woman knows stuff and I should be able to get some info but can't. Arrghhh.
That is really funny about the Henry to Robert to Henry game of tag your family had. Kinda cool- at least you'll always remember they were either a Henry or a Robert. LOL.
someone (a distant cousin) on the remington side married someone with the last name mcclure...that doesn't make us related, but i'd like to contact them and find out if the mcclure is related to my family.
It's always fun to find out interesting stuff about your family. For instance, while my dad was doing geneology research he found out that his parents were third cousins (or something like that)- at least they were that closely related!
the most interesting thing we've found in our family tree so far is my dad had a great uncle down the way that was chased out of Louisiana for killilng another man's slave. Nothing to be proud of, but interesting!
It's going to be so much easier to do work now that they're doing away with Temple Ready. I hit a road block with that. I go through addiction spurts with genealogy and then I don't touch it for a few months. It's cool to see what you find when you pick it up again. I think you should name your next child Robert Henry! :)
Hmmm, you might be joking about you and Josh being related, but it happened to us :) Jamie and I were doing a little research, we got stuck, so I called Joel's dad (family history buff), and he said that the names sounded really familiar. Not what you want to hear from your father-in-law. Turns out Joel and I are 6th or 7th cousins. Thank goodness it wasn't closer. I love the Rober, Henry story.
Okay, I have a confession. I also discovered today that my great great great grandpa and his wife were either third or fourth cousins. I was too shy to post it, but now I see that it's not too weird! His wife's great grandfather is also his great great grandfather. What does that make them?
PS- They're both named HENRY!!!
